Tarot may or may not be magic, but magic is real, and your eyes are incredible organs with a mind of their own. They will pick up on the subtle larger truths that a reading is pointing to.
We tend to default to language when trying to understand ourselves, but visual perception is older, faster, and in many ways much more direct. The tiny artworks on the cards communicate something, a meaning that skips the mediating layer of language and logic. When you look at an image, the feeling comes before the name, the body knows before the mind has had a chance to construct an explanation.
This phenomenon happens with anything you look at really, but tarot makes it come to life in a truly wonderful way. Each card is polysemic, meaning its image offers multiple possible interpretations at the same time. Pulling multiple cards then further combines these many possible meanings with each other, and before you know it you have a real playground of myths, patterns and stories that your eyes are settling on before you've had a chance to realise what's going on.
It's such a special and precious kind of mental space to step into. You are looking, and something inside you is looking back. The meaning is not only in the card but also in the world and in you.
