Hanne Peeraer is a London-based Belgian interdisciplinary artist from Italy. She is a graduate in Painting from the Royal College of Art and the London Interdisciplinary School in London, where she began her research in neuroaesthetics and the inferential pathways at play between (self-) perception and cognition. Echoing her practice, she also works as a development coach, supporting people in finding integration and alignment between their inner self-concept and their external encounters and learnings. Her work has been exhibited in the UK, Belgium, France, Spain and Korea.

Connecting physiological optics, cognitive science, and nature, my work investigates the relation between illusion and meaning-making. I’m fascinated by the psychology of scientific thinking; I approach it from an intuitive place to find alternative ways to reveal complex topics, using magic, light, play, and experiential sensation.

My urge to create sprung from an exercise to heal from mourning in early life, and my practice today acts as a similar counterforce to the cynicism and resignation that comes up in the face of our world's uncertain future. I use materials that capture or reflect their environment; translucent paper, frosted glass, light-refracting prisms. The goal is for them to become signifiers of knowledge and meaning that heighten perceptual awareness and self-reflection: an invitation to feel the urgency and call to action in a way that diagrams and data cannot.
